Two provincial tournaments coming to Red Deer this July
The Red Deer Tennis Club will welcome two major provincial competitions this month, using both its outdoor courts and its indoor bubble facilities. The club, which recently celebrated its 125th anniversary and is now in its 126th year, will host Tennis Alberta’s Junior Championships from July 20 to 25 and the Alberta Open Tennis Championship from July 31 to August 3.
The club’s facilities comprise eight outdoor courts plus four courts under the seasonal bubble, allowing organisers to stage matches regardless of short-term weather variations.

“I don’t think we’ve ever hosted the Alberta Open,” said Mary Gardner, a member of the club’s board, noting the significance of attracting the long-running event.
The Alberta Open brings together top players from across the province in both open and amateur divisions. With a history stretching back 113 years, the tournament is one of Canada’s longest-running tennis events and its arrival in Red Deer marks a notable moment for the local club.
