Historic market marks milestone with family-focused morning
The Barrie Farmers' Market will celebrate its 180th anniversary on Saturday, July 18, 2026, inviting the community to a morning of music, activities and recognition of long-serving vendors.
Founded in 1846, the market is one of the province's longest-running farmers' markets and has been described by organisers as an
"extraordinary milestone"in the city's cultural and commercial life. The anniversary event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will showcase more than 70 local vendors offering produce, prepared foods, artisanal goods and other locally made products.

Organisers have scheduled live performances and family activities throughout the morning. Local clarinetist Sean Derraugh is booked to play from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., and the Northern Jewel Cloggers will perform at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Community leaders, including Mayor Alex Nuttall and Coun. Craig Nixon, are expected to attend the official anniversary portion of the program at 10 a.m.
