Homicide unit probing death of man found in Stoney Creek culvert

Hamilton police have identified the man found dead this week in a culvert near the north end of Fruitland Road in Stoney Creek as 29-year-old Taranpreet Singh Sidhu. A police news release says Sidhu was living and working as a truck driver in Brampton and had previously lived in Halifax. He immigrated to Canada from India in 2022.

Emergency crews responded at about 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday after a report of an unresponsive person. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hamilton Police Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and is working closely with Peel Regional Police.

“While detectives continue to pursue all investigative avenues, they are not prepared to release information regarding the vehicle believed to have been used to transport Mr. Sidhu.”

Police say they are investigating the circumstances that led to the man's presence in the culvert and have carried out a video canvass of the area and interviews with witnesses. Investigators have also requested that residents and businesses in the vicinity check surveillance, dash-cam and doorbell footage for any activity between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning that could assist the inquiry.
