Round-the-clock work planned at a busy Brampton junction
Continuous construction is scheduled this weekend at the intersection of Queen Street West and McLaughlin Road in Brampton, with the Region of Peel authorizing crews to operate 24 hours a day to advance watermain and service replacements. The intersection will be closed to all through traffic from Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, with signed detours and police officers on site to direct drivers through the area.
The Region says this push is part of ongoing work on Queen Street West, where crews are upgrading water infrastructure across Peel to handle expected population growth. To limit the duration of disruption, the City’s noise bylaw has been adjusted to permit continuous operations over the weekend.
“Under the City of Brampton Noise Bylaw, work is permitted to occur continuously, for 24 hours a day, throughout the weekend of July 17 to help reduce the impact of construction activities,” the Region of Peel says in an update.
Traffic, access and parking
During the closure, the Region will post a detour route and have police manage traffic at key points. While crews aim to curb disruption, Peel Public Works indicates it does not expect significant noise or vibrations above normal daytime construction levels.
Paving will further restrict driveway access for some properties from 8 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Residents and visitors in the work zone will need to use alternative parking. Temporary parking is being set up on nearby side streets in coordination with the City of Brampton, and affected households can register through the City’s Parking Exemption Application online. Limited parking will also be available on Queen Street West in front of homes within the construction limits, as conditions allow.

This closure is one phase in a broader watermain replacement and service improvement program that has already required weeks of closures and lane reductions along Queen Street West. Concentrating intensive activity into a single weekend, with continuous shifts, is intended to shorten the overall timeline and reduce repeat disruptions at a major Brampton corridor.
While the accelerated schedule can be inconvenient for nearby residents, the Region says the approach should minimize the number of separate closures needed in the future. The work aims to modernize essential water infrastructure to match long-term demand in Brampton and the surrounding Peel municipalities.
