The City of Brantford says the closure of Icomm Drive in the downtown core will remain in place until the end of August as crews continue underground sanitary infrastructure work and road construction tied to the Downtown Revitalization Project.

Which sections are affected

Traffic is currently prohibited on Icomm Drive between Colborne Street and Hill Street. Signage is in place directing motorists to alternative routes. The city reports that one lane in each direction remains open on Icomm Drive between Hill Street and Clarence Street South.

  • Closed: Icomm Drive — Colborne Street to Hill Street (through end of August)
  • Partial open: Icomm Drive — Hill Street to Clarence Street South (one lane each direction)
  • Reopening planned: Icomm Drive — portion between Market Street South and Clarence Street South (base asphalt and temporary lane painting complete)

Work completed and next steps

The section between Market Street South and Clarence Street South is expected to reopen in the coming week after crews completed base asphalt and temporary line painting. The city says a further top asphalt lift and landscaping are scheduled for the fall.

Bell Canada’s utility relocation associated with the project is described as nearing completion. Telecommunications splicing has been finished throughout most of West Brant, with final splicing at maintenance holes on either side of the Lorne Bridge expected in the coming weeks.

"Signage indicates detour routes around the road closure."

Impact for road users and businesses

Residents, cyclists and motorists are advised to allow additional travel time while detours are in place. The phased reopening of the Market–Clarence block should restore some local access, but the sustained closure through August will continue to affect downtown circulation, deliveries and on-street access for properties along Icomm Drive.

City officials have not released a detailed schedule of night or weekend work in the update. The planned fall top course of asphalt and landscaping will follow the current construction phase and the completion of utility splicing by Bell.

Location Status Next steps

The Downtown Revitalization Project is continuing in stages. Commuters and local businesses should monitor City of Brantford communications for further updates on lane restrictions, detour changes and the schedule for the final paving and landscaping work.
