Outdoor screening at Kitchener Market called off
The Downtown Kitchener BIA has cancelled the scheduled FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final screening at Kitchener Market on Wednesday because of poor air quality across Waterloo Region.
Organizers said there was no indoor alternative at the market after a fire at a vendor stall earlier in the week forced the market's temporary closure. City staff are conducting cleanup and are working on a plan to reopen the market this weekend, the BIA said.

The announcement came as smoke from northern Ontario wildfires reduced air quality across much of southwestern Ontario. The BIA and city staff advised against using the market space until conditions improve and the cleanup is complete.
