Quick response limits damage at Bronte apartment
Oakville Fire Department crews contained a balcony fire at a multi-unit residential building in Bronte on the evening of July 14, preventing injuries and limiting structural damage.
The incident occurred at 2311 Ontario Street in a six-storey building. The department said it received a call just after 8 p.m. and that the first-arriving units observed visible flames and smoke coming from a fourth-floor balcony.

How crews halted the spread
Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Coburn said crews applied water to the balcony from the exterior with a quick initial attack before entering the building and proceeding to the fourth floor. Smoke and flames had entered the unit through the balcony opening, but an aggressive interior firefight limited further spread.
"The first arriving crew was able to apply water to the 4th floor with a ‘quick hit’ from the exterior before entering the building," Coburn wrote in an email to Oakville News.
Crews completed a primary search at approximately 8:12 p.m. and worked to remove smoke from the building so residents could return to their units. Because a heat advisory was in effect at the time, fire crews provided cooling support to displaced residents while operations continued, officials said.
Coordination and public messaging
Oakville Fire Department personnel were supported at the scene by Halton Police and Halton Paramedics. The Office of the Fire Marshal was not notified about the incident, according to OFD.
In a social media post, Oakville’s mayor publicly thanked firefighters for their work.
