REGINA — Saskatchewan RCMP say two men, including Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Jayden Dalke, died after a head-on collision Saturday night near Lumsden, and investigators have tied the silver SUV involved to an earlier report of leaving a gas station without paying. Police also reported the presence of alcohol and cannabis in Dalke’s vehicle as the probe continues.
Collision, prior report and investigation
Mounties said the crash happened at about 9 p.m. near the community northwest of Regina when the silver SUV driven by Dalke struck a black SUV. Both drivers died at the scene. RCMP confirmed a business in Lumsden called police roughly 30 minutes earlier to report a silver SUV that had left without paying for fuel; investigators say that was the same vehicle later involved in the fatal collision.
“We received a report around 8:27 p.m. from a business in Lumsden of a silver SUV leaving without paying for fuel,” RCMP spokesperson Mandy Maier said. “The investigation has determined this was the same silver SUV that was involved in the collision.”
RCMP also told reporters there were no initial reports of erratic driving by Dalke’s SUV before the crash and that autopsies and toxicology testing would be performed as part of the ongoing inquiry. No passengers were in either vehicle.
Victims and team response
Dalke, 30, and the driver of the other vehicle, identified by police as Bhishma Rajyaguru, 22, of Regina, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The Roughriders held a news conference Monday to pay tribute to Dalke, who was a sixth-round pick in the 2022 CFL draft out of the University of Alberta and a member of Saskatchewan’s 2025 Grey Cup team.
“Jayden was a loved teammate,” Roughriders general manager Jeremy O’Day said. “You never left the conversation with Jayden where you didn't feel happy. He loved what he was doing, loved the game of football, loved his teammates.”
Dalke had appeared in regular-season and postseason games for the Riders, including the West final and the Grey Cup victory. Team officials noted his contributions on special teams and defence while remembering him for his personality and presence in the locker room.

Mounties confirmed that substances were located in Dalke’s SUV and that further forensic work will be completed. Police routinely carry out autopsies and toxicology screening in sudden death investigations; results can take weeks to return and will form part of the coroner’s file and RCMP report.
