Delta Air Lines to add seasonal Boston–Reykjavík service, affecting transatlantic capacity

Delta Air Lines has announced a new daily seasonal service linking Boston Logan International Airport and Reykjavík–Keflavík Airport that will operate from 12 April 2027 through 30 October 2027. The carrier said the route will be served with Boeing 757-200 aircraft and will add to Delta's transatlantic offerings during the peak summer season.

Service, aircraft and cabin configuration

Delta described the 757-200 configuration as offering Premium Select, Delta Comfort+ and Main Cabin seating. Industry reporting notes the configuration does not include Delta One flat-bed suites. The airline currently operates 49 of the 757-200 model, which it uses on lower-density long-haul transatlantic routes.

Network context and competition

The new flight becomes Delta's 14th long-haul destination from Boston and its 16th international destination from Logan during the summer season. Delta has operated to Reykjavík previously from New York JFK since June 2011 and has also offered seasonal services to Keflavík from Detroit, Minneapolis–St. Paul and New York JFK. The Boston–Reykjavík announcement marks Delta's return to that particular city pair following a brief run in 2021.

  • Service period: 12 April–30 October 2027
  • Frequency: daily, seasonal
  • Aircraft: Boeing 757-200 (49 in Delta fleet)
“The route will become Delta's 14th long-haul destination from Logan International Airport during the peak summer season,” the airline said.

The Boston–Keflavík corridor has been dominated by Icelandair, which accounted for the majority of departures. With Play having ceased operations in September 2025, Delta's entry will make it the second operator on the route.

Implications for travellers and carriers

For travellers in the North Atlantic and New England regions, Delta's addition increases options and seasonal capacity to Iceland, a hub that can serve as a connecting point to wider European networks. The use of the 757-200, a narrow-body long-range type, suggests Delta anticipates steady but not high-density seasonal demand on the city pair.

Tickets went on sale shortly after the announcement. The move underscores Boston's role in Delta's transatlantic strategy and reflects shifting competitive dynamics in North Atlantic air travel following the exit of other carriers from the market.
