Spicewalla, a small-batch spice maker based in Asheville, is opening a retail location in Georgetown this fall at 1317 Wisconsin Ave. NW, the company said in a customer email. The shop will be the brand’s second retail outpost, following its flagship store in Asheville’s historic Grove Arcade.
What the store will offer
According to the company, Spicewalla’s retail spaces are designed as immersive, sensory environments stocking a wide selection of products for home cooks and professional chefs alike. The Georgetown location is expected to carry:
- 250+ individual spices
- 60+ exclusive blends
- Gift-ready collections and other pantry brands
- Hot chai available at the shop
Spicewalla says it roasts, grinds and packs spices by hand in its Asheville factory and is known for its colourful tins. The company has expanded its product line recently, launching items such as an MSG-forward "Jugaad It!" blend and collaborations with Charleston chef Shuai Wang, including a Sichuan Hot Chicken seasoning and a Chilli Crunch, as well as a Classic Chicken Seasoning.
Location and neighbour
The new shop will open beside East Fork Pottery, another brand with roots in Asheville, signalling a small cluster of out-of-town specialty retailers establishing a presence on the avenue. Spicewalla’s announcement described the Georgetown store as a “joy-filled” space intended to equip cooks at every level.
"Spicewalla supplies chefs and home cooks with small-batch, fresh spices from around the world that are roasted, ground, and packed by hand in their Asheville factory," the company wrote.
What this means for shoppers
For residents and visitors, the store will provide direct access to a broad range of spices and blends that otherwise might require online ordering. The retail model emphasises in-person discovery and sampling, offering a different experience from typical grocery shopping.
